« CHARACTER INFORMATION »
Character: Inquisitor Lavellan
Canon: Dragon Age: Inquistion
Canon point: Six months after the end of the DA:I but then he spent a couple years in
OU or AU?: CRAU
Age: 28
Species: Elf
AU clarification: Lavellan is taken from the end of Drift Fleet. The premise of that game was that characters were pulled from their world to travel in a fleet of space ships. They were told they were part of a "reality tv show" and that all of their actions were being watched. They got bonuses for being well-liked by the "audience" and went to different planets and faced a large variety of events there.
While with the Fleet, Lavellan faced a lot of his insecurities and realized he needed to work on them. He dealt with some of the traumatizing battles of the Fleet. He won't trust things in space or anything that makes him feel like he's being watched. The fact that there's some kind of way for them to track how much Mana he's generating will make him suspicious of the intentions of the natives here based just on his experiences with the Fleet, where every action he took was watched by some unknown audience. There are a couple of main points of how that experience will affect who he is from now on. He's very good at pretending to be friendly, though, so only close CR will be informed of his doubts.
Otherwise, here are some things that have changed for him that would carry on into this game:
1 - He got a cyber prosthetic. At the end of Dragon Age: Inquisition, the Inquisitor loses half of their left arm. On one of the planets that the Fleet visited, Lavellan installed a silver arm to replace it. I have art reference for what that looks like.
2 - He has encountered versions of his companions and advisors who did not know him as well as different versions of Hawke and the Warden. This means he is aware of Thedas's flux nature (thanks to customizable protagonists) and will not be shocked to find people who he considers close friends who do not know him. This includes people from Thedas and any cross canon CR he had. He's already used to how panfandom games work with drops and apps.
3 - By his nature, Lavallen tends to be very flirtatious. This will be severely muted, at least at first, when he arrives in this game. The reason for this is that he had developed a strong romantic connection on the Fleet that will not be carried over here. He will know that relationship has ended, due to its nature as a cross-canon ship. He understands that he may see that person again, but they will not know him at all. It will kind of kill his drive to be flirty. Eventually, he'll come to terms with this, but the loss will be fresh to him when he arrives. It's important to note, though, that he made the choice to leave that relationship. When the Fleet ended, the characters had a choice to go to any world or go home. Because he knew there was work to do back home, he chose to return to his homeworld.

Disposition:
Compassion - This feeling is a major motivation for him. He agreed to be Inquisitor in part because he knew it would give him the ability to help people. When he makes choices it's often driven by a desire to help the downtrodden or find a compromise that avoids as much bloodshed as possible. This doesn't make Lavellan a total pushover. When he needs to resort to violence, he does. Given Thedas's violent nature, he has a lot of blood on his hands. These are things that were necessary for his survival or for the betterment of the Inquisition. His default is to choose the nonviolent, most diplomatic option whenever possible.
Hiding - Despite wanting what is best for others, Lavallen is always hiding. Sometimes he hides and misdirects in battle, as he relies on stealth. Sometimes he hides by plastering his face with makeup, dressing in tailored clothes, and laughing away any sense of insecurity. He tries to misdirect to protect himself from getting hurt and often puts on a show of being a flirty, fun-loving guy all while feeling things deeply and intensely. While he thinks this is a shield that he built around himself, it sometimes can really harm his interpersonal relationships because he lies and says he’s fine even when he’s is hurting. The Fleet broke down some of this as he met someone else who helped break down his walls and revealed who he truly was underneath. That relationship deeply changed him, and now, thanks to leaving the Fleet, it's over.
Lavallen tries to cover up anything that might be considered negative with humor and tries to appear stoic. He doesn't like to appear weak or damaged - even though he feels as if he is both. For a long time, this also resulted in an intense fear of romantic intimacy. While he shined at platonic connection and thrived on sexual attention, he was terrified of falling in love. That didn't stop it from happening – he’s fallen in love multiple times –but when it did happen, he tended to run from it. Before the Fleet, he tried to pretend that the word "love" was something he didn't say—even as he fell for several men. He overcame that fear thanks to his relationship and now he needs to figure out what he'll do now that that relationship is over.
Hedonistic - Before that relationship, he was very open with his body and extremely sex-focused. He tended towards frivolous, pleasurable experiences while attempting (and failing) to avoid emotional entanglement. Eventually, as he learns to cope with the loss of his relationship, he'll fall back into these old habits. He may even try to go overboard to make up for the lost time. He is also super kinky so that will come back full force.
Lavellan loves the finer things in life. He was a fan of rich fabrics and tasty food. His hedonism wasn't just limited to kink sex. This is a trait that isn't often seen in a Dalish elf – a fact that contributed greatly to his restlessness and desire to be around humans. This is one of the reasons the Keeper had sent him to the Conclave in the first place. When he became Inquisitor, he was able to indulge by sleeping with people like Bull. While he embraced his position to help others, it was also a perk that he was allowed to gain access to more luxury. He was always delighted by things like regular baths, his luxurious room, and tiny cakes at parties. He flirted with basically every handsome man he could and even some women.
Inquisitive and Inventive - He is a tinkerer and is curious about the world around him. He asks questions of people he meets to understand who they are and what world they came from. He has a love of people, something that feeds his compassion and helps him form good friendships. He also loves stuff. Technology is amazing to him and he often wants to learn everything he can about how it works. Basically, he has a pure nerd side to him. He used this to become an Artificer. On the Fleet, this curiosity drove him to learn everything he could about technology. It helped him to embrace the installation of his new arm, as he thought the technology behind it was super neat.
He's still behind in his knowledge because coming from Thedas gave him a learning curve to overcome, but when he meets technologically minded people, he tends to think they're really cool. He'll want to learn more now that he's in a new place with a tad more freedom than the Fleet.
Suitability:
Lavellan is a friendly dude, even if he's a little sad right now. He tends to want to see the best in people and strives to make others comfortable when they are in his presence. This helps him with cross-canon relationships and building good CR around him. He really enjoys learning more about technology too and so he'll find the blend of magic and technology in this world fascinating. (Side note: Lavellan was in Prisma too, and he loved the tech there too. It brings out the nerd in him.)
He isn't completely new to strange magic being thrust upon him either. If he comes to Noctium after his arrival if he had a coin for every time he ended up with something embedded in his body that was based on the power of a strange, seemingly unknowable god, and bestowed him with abilities that he didn't fully understand, he'd have two coins. (Which doesn't seem like a lot but it's an odd thing to have happen twice. XD). He won't be a huge fan of his body changing in ways he can't explain but he will make a pretty cute mermaid.
Because there are castmates already in-game, I want to address how Lavellan will likely interact with them. Lavellan already has experience with a panfandom setting thanks to his time with the Fleet. This makes him ready to see his friends from home and have them not recognize him. That removes some of the tension inherent with a customizable protagonist. He won't assume that the characters already in the game know him, basically. He copes by compartmentalizing the relationship he has with them in the game away from the relationship he has with them back home. He does have feelings for both Bull and Dorian, but he's the one who ran away from developing romantic feelings for them. In the Fleet, they even hooked up. Basically, he's not new to this party and already knows some of the dance moves.
Finally, Lavellan will have driving motivations to participate in Mana generation. I feel like that fits better in the next section so let's move on!
Condition upon arrival:
Three things come to mind here: his psychological state, his physical state, and his long-term issues.
Psychologically speaking: he'll be pretty sad. From his perspective, a relationship he invested a lot of time and emotion into is dissolved overnight. That person won't remember him even if he appears in-game, and due to his experiences with the Fleet, Lavellan is aware of that. The Fleet came to an end, and now he finds himself in a new place without his partner and he even if he ever sees his love again, that won't mean he'll get the relationship back. He'll be trying to pretend he's not sad, but he will be. Once he copes a bit more, he'll probably use Mana to help himself feel better so I anticipate he might become a bit of a ho again as he learns that it can help distract him.
Physically speaking: While Lavallen is missing a limb, it has been replaced with cyberware. He'll need maintenance for his arm. He understands basic upkeep but anything deeper than that would need an expert. However, I was hoping that I could say that Mana can also help to power and maintain the arm, which gives him another incentive to generate as much as possible.
What Long-Term Issues?: Lavellan is missing an arm because he had a magic anchor embedded inside of his hand that started to destroy his body. That magic belonged to an elven god, who was also a good friend of his. In order to preserve a little of Lavellan's life, Solas had to take his arm. That said, when he does, Solas implies the magic will still kill him but just at a slower rater. Solas plans to destroy the world before that happens, making the end of Lavellan's life a moot point. The point of this is to say that the magic still lingers in Lavellan’s body. It no longer threatens to tear him apart in a flash, but rather is very slowly killing him. In other games, Lavellan has had to build relationships with healers to help mitigate the effects of this. Here in Noct, I'll say that Mana helps to do that. This is yet another incentive to generate Mana. Without that, Lavellan experiences chronic pain from the lingering magic in his body.
Abilities:
Lavellan is a rogue in the Dragon Age world. His weapon of choice is the bow, but he has some knowledge of how to fight with daggers. He can also use a crossbow. He's pretty good at distance and stealth kills. He is the type to assess a battle, sneak up to the high ground, and then use that leverage to shoot at his enemies. Either that or he'll use his stealth skills to set traps around the battle that enemies can stumble into.
He is an Artificer by specialization. As a skilled craftsman, Lavellan can create and use traps and intricate devices to be used during battle. He also has a mind for traps and devices in general and invents little things to make the world easier and better. After he lost his arm, he used those skills to make new prosthetic arms that he could use to fight –including one with a crossbow attachment. He also made toys for children in his Clan as well as stimming tools for Merrick, including objects such as puzzle boxes.
Lavellan possesses a welcoming demeanor and has experience as a skilled politician. He has the desire to seek compromise but can also focus and make important choices when needed. He has good interpersonal skills but can still lie through his teeth to ensure that he hides information. He can schmooze with the best of them but tends to also hold things close to his chest.
While this is no longer an ability he has active control over, it is also important to note that he still has a bit of Fen'Harel's magic in him. The center of it has been removed with his arm, but the magic still touched him and still hurts him. It will eventually kill him - it's just doing it very slowly and with Mana he can slow that down even more. While he personally does not currently have access to this magic and cannot weld it, someone with magical ability might be able to draw on it. This is something that would have to be worked out if it came up in-game.
Inventory:
Only two things to note: a magic crystal pendant he got from Dorian and the Red Jenny coin that he got from Sera. These are two things he always keeps on his person. Otherwise, he won't have anything else with him other than his clothes. He won't have any mementos from the Fleet or any weapons.
Gembond: Sapphire
Gem Location: The bridge of his nose. The gem will be placed right within his vallaslin (the tattoos on his face) to make it seem as if it was intentionally part of the design.

Sample:
With CRAU Hawke on a TDM
With Warden Mahariel on a TDM
Notes: His relationship was with Kolivan from Voltron: Legendary Defender. I didn't say this anywhere in the app because I don't anticipate it will come up in-game. Even if someone apps Kolivan, Lavallen knows that Kolivan won't remember him. He has experience with seeing people he knows who don't remember him and is prepared for that possibility. In prose, I'll stay vague on purpose about the identity of who it was just to avoid confusion. OOCly, I'll probably joke about him missing his big purple cat boyfriend though.
Anyway, have a meme:
