He feels guilty, even though he knows he shouldn't. It's not taking advantage of someone to do just as you've asked to do. But guilt is synonymous with who he is anymore and he feels it anyway as he knocks on Cyril's door.
Cyril lives with Sam and Kirk, but Anders happens to knock while the other two are away. When he sees Anders he smiles. "Hello you," he says. He opens the door a bit wider. "Want to come in?"
"I'd like that," he says quietly with a small smile. Anders steps in, clears the door, and then stands there a little awkwardly. "You said something about being able to rest? Nate's out on a mission and our room feels so empty..."
His smile gets softer and bigger at the same time. "I'd like to share tea and company, if you don't mind. It's been... The last few days have been strange."
A little scary, really, and he wishes that Nate hadn't had to go. But he's not alone. He has friends.
[There is a moment of pause, the sound of a door shutting, and then:]
Listen, Cyril. I understand why you did it, and this time, it worked out well enough, so I'll happily say nothing more of this, after today. But if I ever find that you're telling my secrets like that again, regardless of your motivation, that's not going to be acceptable.
And if I don't, imagine what Beleth will say. So, this is my fair warning, as your friend. Because we are still friends, right now.
After ascertaining over crystal that it was an okay time to do so, Nahariel shows up at Cyril's door with a pensive face (that breaks briefly into a warm smile and a greeting) and the offering of a nice chunk of aged wood she'd been saving ("for a puzzle box," she says), and barely waits to be invited in before she's perched on a chair, picking at a loose thread in her scarf with far too much concentration. Suddenly, she's looking at him with a level serious gaze and says, "Cyril... you know when someone needs to be hurt?"
She says "needs" in a way that means she's not talking about some asshole cruising for a bruising.
"How do you... do that... without really hurting them?"
Cyril looked pleased at the gift and had welcomed her into the house. Then, he heard her say the words and honestly wasn't sure for a moment that he had heard them correctly.
Of all the things she could have asked him, that was the last thing he would have imagined.
He seems surprised, but there isn't a hint of judgement in his face or tone. He also doesn't make her repeat herself or make a big deal of his surprise. Instead, he takes the question very seriously.
"That greatly depends on how they need to be hurt," he explained. "Do you prefer to be struck? Whipped? Cut?" A pause. "Spanked?"
Nari's eyes widen a bit, and then she waves a hand quickly to interrupt Cyril's thought process, "It's not about me," she says, her haste betraying less judgement of her own and more a desire to return to the subject she had in mind, "It's... about a friend." Which he was, she thought. "Who I'm... who I want to be safe. But they aren't right now, and I thought--" forcing the words out past the catch in her throat (the companion piece to her furious blush) was obviously taking a sincere effort. "--I thought I could help, and I thought you might know how."
Big breath in, out. She pulled her fingers purposefully away from the loose thread she'd been worrying and wrapped them around a knee, making herself look at Cyril.
"Whipped. But I'm not sure it's about liking so much as needing."
He is patient as she responds, waiting for her to recover before he continues. He nods, understanding what she means.
"The type of pain that they need is important, though. Because that changes what advise I give. Do you know if they prefer to be bound at the same time? Or any thing else particular?"
[Colin arrives at Cy's house with a basket of freshly baked cookies, knocks, and gives a sheepish smile when the door opens.]
So, I've been lying to you, [he blurts out.] And I really want to stay friends because we have fun together and you make good conversation that makes me think, but I think for us to really be friends you have to know this about me because it's a really big part of my life even though I didn't want it to be.
Oh, cookies! [Cyril replies with a smile as he takes them. He doesn't mean to act flippant about whatever Colin needs to tell him, but rather to provide some reprieve from any anxiety. He doesn't know what Colin might have lied to him about, but he's ready to hear what Colin has to say. He steps aside to let Colin in.]
[Good. Good! Stepping inside, gonna talk about this privately so his friend doesn't get blind-sided when this gets out. Colin waits for the door to close, sits down on a chair, and rests his elbows on his knees, fingers interlaced.]
So I know the Dalish see these things differently from the rest of the world. So it's not that I was hiding something thinking you'd hate me for it or anything. It's the rest of the world what made me nervous. Still makes me nervous. I was afraid if I told anyone at all it would get out. But I guess since it's going to get out eventually, it ought to be on my terms.
[Cyril's brow does raise at the confession, but it's purely out of surprise not of hate or distrust. He really hadn't expected someone who has his own business and moves freely to be a mage, and that, he realizes, is part of the problem with their society. He expects human mages to be huddled in groups, all sharing the trauma of imprisonment.
He moves closer, though he doesn't invade Colin's space entirely.]
Thank you for telling me. [He starts there, because it can't be easy to do so.]
Have you... Did you manage to escape a Circle? Or were you with one before the rebellion?
[There's a chuckle from his end, amused by Cyril's unending compliments.]] Even this far you're still a charmer.
I'm doing fine... for the most part. I have to be extra careful about using magic here, and it's an ongoing upward battle trying to get on my new uncle's good side.
But I'm more concerned about you. How are you faring?
